Barcelona-El Prat Airport is located south-west of the city, between the city limits of El Prat de Llobregat, Viladecans and Sant Boi. It is just three kilometres from the Port of Barcelona, one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean for container traffic and a market leader in the cruise sector. It is also located near the Free-trade Zone Consortium, one of the most important industrial and logistics areas in Spain.

Barcelona-El Prat Airport constitutes a cornerstone of the Catalan economy and is particularly important for the business sector and tourism industry. To modernise and prepare Barcelona-El Prat Airport for future air traffic demands, major improvements to infrastructure and services are currently being undertaken. The Barcelona Plan has transformed the airport with the construction of a new terminal area and the extension of the airfield with a new runway, in addition to other relevant infrastructures.

Apart from the Barcelona Plan, Aena Aeropuertos continues to invest in the airport expansion ensuring that it remains one of the most important in the south of Europe. Thus building plans include construction of a new satellite building, a space with four embarkation and debarkation piers, an intermodal area, boarding ramp area, SATE floor and service and evacuation corridors, as well as the refurbishment of T2.

These actions will consolidate Barcelona-El Prat as an important European hub airport, increasing its national and international connections.

In 2010, it handled 29,209,536 passengers, 277,832 flight operations and 104,280 tonnes of cargo.

Quality commitments

Barcelona-El Prat Airport undertakes to attend to individuals' needs during their time at the airport with high standards of quality, security and support. To do so, it has taken on a series of commitments:

1. Offer the passenger all the necessary material resources required for travelling to and from the airport (car park control, signage, co-ordination with public transport) as well as within the airport (luggage trolleys, signage and PA system)
2. To offer passengers all the information relating to the services managed by the airport, ensuring that this is reliable and that it reaches passengers quickly and effectively. For this purpose, a notice board system, both static and dynamic, a PA system and information desks at which personal attention may be provided have been implemented.
3. We provide the means to ensure that the visitor's time at the airport is as comfortable as possible (restaurants, heating and air conditioning, comfortable seating, cleanliness and hygiene in the terminal building, VIP lounges, services for people with reduced mobility, lost property, left-luggage, first aid, etc.).
4. We seek to serve the needs of our customers. With this objective, customer satisfaction surveys are carried out and there are complaint and suggestion forms available for use.

Complaints and suggestions

The complaints and suggestions submitted by our customers help us to improve the services we offer.

There are Aena Aeropuertos complaint forms at the disposal of users at Barcelona airport information desks, in addition to suggestion cards, which are also available at information desks and leaflet stands. Complaints and suggestions, which are received by other means (letter, telephone, fax or e-mail), will be dealt with in the same way.

There are two types of complaint forms: the Aena Aeropuertos complaint forms, which are used for any type of complaint relating to airport services, air travel and the companies or official entities or retail outlets operating in the airport. The second type are airline complaint forms, which are found at the information desk or at the ticket sales desks of the different airlines. These forms are for claims dealing with the service provided by the airline. Should these complaint forms not be available from the airline, the Aena Aeropuertos forms may be used for the complaint or suggestion.

The airport will distribute the complaints and suggestions (different organisations participate in the Barcelona airport system), after which the customer will be notified, in 21 days or less, of the actions taken to address the claim or suggestion.

Barcelona-El Prat Airport values the complaints, claims and suggestions it receives from its users as an efficient way of contributing towards improving its services. Other tools are also used to improve this participation, and most significantly, the service quality survey that is carried out periodically.

Due to the second phase of the Spanish High-Velocity rail works in the vicinity of Sant Andreu Comtal station, the service to the airport is currently provided on line 2 Norte Aeropuerto - Sant Celoni / Maçanet Massanes.

Train Estació França - Airport - Estació França

A direct train runs once a day between Estació França and the airport and vice versa.
